Distribution Models Overview

Overview of WeatherIt's three distribution models: Post-Booking Tool, Checkout Widget, and API Integration.

WeatherIt supports three distribution models for partner integration. Each delivers the same regulated insurance products and customer outcomes — the difference is how and where the customer interacts with WeatherIt.

Post-Booking Tool

The Post-Booking Tool is a hosted WeatherIt page. Partners provide a link (via email, confirmation page, or booking portal) and the customer completes the quote and purchase on WeatherIt's page. No technical integration with partner systems is required.

See the Post-Booking Tool section for branding, technical integration, and dynamic messaging guides.

Checkout Widget

The Checkout Widget is a set of embeddable Web Components that partners add to their checkout pages. WeatherIt provides the quoting UI as embedded components. The partner handles payment via Stripe Connect and activates the policy through the WeatherIt API.

See the Checkout Widget section for the integration guide, component reference, and event contract.

API Integration

With API integration, the partner builds the entire customer-facing UI and calls the WeatherIt API directly for quoting and policy activation. Payment is handled by the partner via Stripe Connect.

See the API Integration Guide for architecture, endpoints, and authentication.

Payment Handling

Partners using the Checkout Widget or API Integration handle payment via Stripe Connect. The Split Payment & Reconciliation Guide covers the split payment flow, fund routing, and reconciliation process.

📘

Post-Booking Tool partners do not need to handle payment — WeatherIt manages the full transaction.

Responsibility Split

Regardless of distribution model:

WeatherIt is responsible for:

  • Product design and pricing
  • Underwriting (via MSI)
  • Trigger assessment
  • Payout processing
  • Regulatory compliance

Partners are responsible for:

  • Accurate representation of the product
  • Use of approved marketing language
  • Correct placement in the customer journey
  • First-line customer communication

Distribution method does not change regulatory responsibilities.
